Steps in analysis of organic compounds

Abstract There are many more organic compounds present in water than there are inorganic compounds. Their chemical and physical properties are often very closely related, which makes it very difficult to discriminate a single compound from others, which are also present in the sample. The selection of isolation and/or concentration technique and the instrument for the measurement depends largely on the class of compounds that are to be analysed. Trends in chromatography developments in water analysis are focussing on modern sample preparation by isolation and concentration. A coverage of chromatography detection techniques is limited to the current practice featuring a broad range of applications. Generally a method of analysis for organic compounds includes steps for isolation and concentration before it can be detected by chromatography techniques. These steps in the analysis are described below.
