Selecting the SFC parameters

Abstract Using a supercritical fluid as mobile phase is quite attractive for many applications. However, the parameters are different than in regular HPLC and unfamiliar for LC chromatographers. This chapter describes the behaviour of compressible fluids, and gives insight in the sometimes unexpected effects of analytical parameters on retention. Understanding the behaviour of compressible fluids is necessary to develop a method for SFC separation. This chapter helps in understanding separation behaviour in SFC and describes some details and thoughts on how to develop methods and optimising the parameters in SFC. Before reading this chapter, one should be familiar with the introductory chapter.
