Abstract Split inlets are generally simple to operate, one factor which accounts for their popularity. There are several steps that must be considered to get the best performance from the inlet. These begin with basic set up and maintenance: there are several parts, including septa, glass sleeves, ferrules and fittings that, if improperly installed or if they fail, can cause unsatisfactory inlet performance.
