Sample preparation in modern bioanalysis

Abstract Samples of biological materials are not convenient for direct LC-MS analysis due to high complexity and high content of many interfering compounds, such as salts, phospholipids and especially proteins. Sample preparation is needed to isolate, clean-up and/or pre-concentration of analytes of interest from complex biological matrices.
This article and the following three articles describe the various sample preparation techniques that are used in modern bioanalysis.
